Our Daily Bread Golf Fore Good Tournament to Help Needy Fairfax Families
South Riding Golf Club, May 16
FAIRFAX, VA. (April 3, 2011) – Fairfax-based non-profit Our Daily Bread, Inc. invites golf enthusiasts of all skill levels to enjoy a great afternoon of golf to help struggling families in the Fairfax County area of Virginia.
Our Daily Bread’s Charity Golf Tournament is scheduled for Monday, May 16 at the South Riding Golf Club (43237 Golf View Drive, South Riding, VA). Registration and lunch begin at noon, with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Individual players and teams are invited to register. A $130 registration fee includes lunch, full round of golf, driving range, golf cart, beverages, raffles, silent auction, dinner and prizes. Sponsorships are welcome.
All proceeds from the event will benefit Our Daily Bread’s food, financial assistance and financial education programs for working families throughout the Fairfax County area of Virginia. In 2010, Our Daily Bread provided $416,200 in emergency financial assistance, supplied temporary food assistance to 442 families, and 385 families benefited from Financial Literacy training and mentoring – in an effort to help them stay in their homes and regain their financial footing. Even as the economy continues to recover, the demand for assistance remains high, and Our Daily Bread is seeking the community’s help to meet this challenge. According to a new study from America’s Second Harvest, nearly 70,000 Fairfax County residents are considered to be food insecure, meaning they are uncertain how they will obtain their next meal.
Lisa Whetzel, Our Daily Bread’s Executive Director, said, “We are looking forward to sharing a great afternoon of golf with our supporters on May 16 for a wonderful cause. We currently have more than 60 families on our Food Program waiting list, our food pantry is being depleted from overwhelming requests for emergency food assistance, and we are forced to turn away at least five requests for emergency financial assistance each week. ODB is constantly looking for ways to increase our capacity to help Fairfax families remain self-sufficient and in their homes in this time of great need. We hope the community will turn out in force to help us assist more families than ever.”
Our Daily Bread continues to seek sponsors for the event as well as donations of silent auction and raffle items. For information on registration, sponsorship and donating goods, visit www.ODBFairfax.org, call 703-273-8829 or e-mail Diane Hill at develop@ODBfairfax.org.
