Did you know that approximately 47,000 children in the Fairfax County Public School system receive free or reduced-price meals? For their families, the prosect of purchasing all the supplies they need to start the school year is stressful.
YOUR support helped Our Daily Bread provide backpacks, calculators and school supplies to 1,500 needy children in the Fairfax High School and JEB Stuart High School pyramids for the 2013-2014 school year. We exceeded our fundraising goal of $30,000, and more than doubled the number of children we supported in 2012!
It takes a community to make a difference! ODB partnered for the third year with Collect for Kids in a County-wide effort to ensure that the neediest children in our community receive the supplies they need to succeed in school. The program is made possible through a partnership with Kids R First, Fairfax County Public Schools, the Fairfax County Office of Public and Private Partnerships, Apple Federal Credit Union and numerous community-based organizations and businesses in the Fairfax County area who are working together to provide supplies in a more cost-effective and efficient way.
With the help of dozens of volunteers and the Rotary Club of Bailey's Crossroads, all of the supplies were distributed to participating schools by August 16.
We will soon start planning to help even more kids in 2014! Email Us if you would like a reminder to participate in our 2014 program!
