Can Your Organization or Congregation Devote One or Two Sundays Per Year to Help the Hungry in Fairfax? Or Donate Grocery Cards?
Thanks to the hard work and good will of our friends in the community, Our Daily Bread is able to deliver food and other necessary household supplies or grocery cards to needy Fairfax County families every weekend. Many people in our own back yard fall on hard times financially and struggle to afford basic necessities on their limited incomes. Our Food Bridge Program allows us to provide this growing list of families some relief. The aim of this program, as with all of our programs, is to help these families bridge the gap until they are again able to maintain self-sufficiency.
Our Food Bridge supporters volunteer to help our families on one or more Sunday throughout the year. They collect sufficient food donations or grocery cards to supplement the families' food supply for two weeks and deliver the items to 30 families on the Sunday they have pledged. Grocery cards may be delivered or mailed. ODB is happy to mail the grocery cards on an organization's behalf.
Grocery cards allow our families to purchase fresh, healthy food that meets their dietary requirements. Groups interested in helping families in this manner can either collect and deliver the grocery cards or donate through our secure www.ODBFoodBridge.org site and we will purchase the cards in bulk at a discount and give the cards to our clients. Individuals are welcome to donate through this page on their own or as part of a group.
The need to provide food assistance to our neighbors in need continues to grow. The current length of time families wait for this critical assistance is more than three months. We rely on our community to make this program work and we need your help.
Plant the seed today. Talk to your business, congregation or civic group about a wonderful group volunteer project. It's about neighbors helping neighbors.
